Vintage Conklin Crescent Filler Model 20 Fountain Pen
The Vintage Conklin Crescent Filler Model 20 Fountain Pen is an early 1920s example of one of the most distinctive filling systems ever devised. Finished in black chased hard rubber, the Model 20 reflects the practical ingenuity that helped establish Conklin as a major American manufacturer in the early 20th century.
The Crescent Filler mechanism operates by aligning the sliding hard rubber ring with the metal crescent, allowing the user to press the crescent inward. This action compresses the internal sac—similar in principle to a lever filler, but activated by pushing rather than lifting. The design was both innovative and highly recognisable, becoming a hallmark of Conklin’s identity. This example is fitted with an extra-fine flexible 14 kt nib, offering precision with expressive line variation, and remains in excellent overall condition with only slight wear.
