Pilot Iroshizuku Ink Morning Glory (Asa-gao) 50ml takes its name from the flowering vine that climbs across Japanese gardens each summer, opening its blooms at dawn and fading by midday. The ink captures that same quality: a soft, mid-toned blue with a gentle purple shift, subtle enough to read as blue in most lights but with just enough violet depth to set it apart from a straightforward cornflower or periwinkle.
Asa-gao shades moderately on quality paper, the purple undertone becoming more apparent where ink pools at the edges of a stroke. Like the rest of the Iroshizuku range it behaves impeccably in the nib: consistent flow, clean starts, and no staining to speak of.
