“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall” - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
Fall has that quality, doesn’t it? We have been trained to view January as the beginning of the year, but September feels like a much more natural restart. Something about the return to regular life and the flip towards cooler days here in Toronto reminded us of this quote, and we have been thinking about the best way to anchor our September feeling since.
As described in the full Fitzgerald quote, while some believe it urgent to have their whole lives figured out right this moment, others take things slowly and view each seasonal overhaul as an opportunity (and a reason) to start again.
This looks different for everyone. Maybe you have been meaning to pick up a new habit, such as journaling, tracking goals, or staying organized. Maybe you have embarked on some early spring cleaning and realized your home office needs a major refresh. Maybe you are beginning a new semester, a new job, or moving into a new home, and you need some encouragement to get into the right mindset. And maybe for you, starting fresh simply means finding joy in the small things.
This September, we encourage you to restart in the way that works best for you. Flip to a fresh page, jot the date at the top, and take things one day at a time. The start of the year brings opportunities aplenty, and unlike the societal pressure we have attached to setting New Year’s resolutions in January, in September, there is no pressure to meet anyone’s expectations (or to disappoint your future self). Sometimes, simply cleaning your home or adding an accessory to your desk is enough.
In honour of this fresh start, we have curated a list of our favourite fall items: back-to-school essentials, home office must-haves, journaling habit-builders, and products that simply bring us joy. We hope you find something in our collection that you will not only love this fall, but use every single day.
September is the perfect time to build new habits, relieve yourself of prior expectations, and flip to a fresh page.
