Ask Your Father
Following the success of our Mother’s Day board, Mother Knows Best, we tried to think of a way to bring our community back together for Father’s Day. While a Dad Joke board was tight in the running (and we wouldn’t mind if a few dad jokes made it onto the board anyway), we ultimately decided to ask our customers to share what their fathers or fatherly figures have taught them.
It almost feels like a stereotype, recounting dad’s life lessons. But every father is different. While some definitely taught their children how to change a tire, most fathers simply see themselves in their children and impose on them what they wished they had known as they had gone through the treacherous journey of life. Lessons like how to ask for a raise at work, what to consider when buying a house, what to do if you miss your flight, how to say hello in various languages, how to choose your major, and even how to clean your fountain pen. Of course, they are not able to predict every single life situation that their children will find themselves in. But they do try their best, and their lessons are returned to and even passed through friends, cousins, and eventually, the next generation. Not only do we pass down the lessons we learned from our parents, but we also add a few of our own.
Join us from June 9th to June 21st at 25 Bellair Street, Toronto, or through this online form to share something that your father has taught you (teaching you how to land the punchline of a dad joke is also an acceptable answer). Our staff will narrow down their favourites, and we will vote on the winner of a Laywine’s gift card!
This Father’s Day, remember to thank your dad for all he has taught you. He may not always be right, he may not be perfect, but he has definitely done his best to equip you to handle all life throws your way.
