LAMY 2000 Fountain Pen

Sale price$375.00

Few writing instruments have earned their reputation as quietly and completely as the LAMY 2000 Fountain Pen. Designed by Gerd A. Müller in 1966 as a pure expression of Bauhaus thinking: honest materials, nothing added without purpose: it has been in continuous production ever since without a single revision. The barrel is Makrolon, a fibre-reinforced polycarbonate with a warmth and grip that no resin quite replicates, joined to a brushed stainless steel section with seams so fine you have to look for them. The semi-hooded 14k gold nib is hand-polished and rhodium-plated, with a smooth, firm character that improves with use.

It fills by piston directly from the bottle, holds considerably more ink than any converter, and has a translucent ink window that lets you keep an eye on levels without unscrewing anything. A pen that gets out of the way and lets the writing happen: which, after nearly sixty years, still feels like the right ambition for a writing instrument.
