Ohto GS01-G5 Ballpoint Pen
The Ohto GS01-G5 Ballpoint Pen is a long-running favourite from one of Japan's most inventive pen makers. Ohto has been making writing instruments since 1919 and is credited with the needle-point tip itself, and the GS01 shows what that experience adds up to. The slim aluminum barrel moves from a hexagonal grip section to a rounded end, so it sits comfortably in the hand and stays put on a desk.
The G5 update brings a refined matte finish and a reinforced clip, and the satisfying click action keeps it ready for quick notes. At just over 16 grams it feels light but properly made, and the fine needle-point tip gives crisp, precise lines on everything from a planner to a legal pad. It also takes G2-format refills, so you're never locked in to one ink.
