Yard-O-Led "The Lucky" Limited Edition Gold Vermeil Pencil
A tribute to courage, craftsmanship, and history, the Yard-O-Led "The Lucky" Limited Edition Gold Vermeil Pencil revives an archival model first sold in 1930, forever linked to the extraordinary story of Lt. Leslie March. This elegant mechanical pencil in Gold Vermeil, is more than a writing instrument—it is a symbol of resilience and remembrance.
Lt. March carried his Yard-O-Led Deco 34, a gift from his wife Margot, through the trials of war. In 1942, while serving with the Cameron Highlanders, a bullet struck him—but his pencil stopped it, saving his life. From that moment on, it never left his side, becoming his lucky charm. Tragically, at just 23, he was killed in action while inspecting trenches in Normandy, shortly after D-Day. His stepbrother, Mr. Kelly, now 90, remembers him simply as “my hero.”
To honour this remarkable legacy, Yard-O-Led has remade the Deco 34 in a limited run of 734 pieces in each finish, reflecting Lt. March’s service number: 190734. Restoring this historical model required the recreation of long-lost tooling, allowing Yard-O-Led’s master craftsmen in Birmingham to bring it back to life. With its distinctive square body, intricate engine-turned pattern, and rare ball clip, the Deco 34 stands apart from anything else in the Yard-O-Led collection.
