Article: A Few Days Off

A Few Days Off

A Few Days Off

Hanukkah has just come to a close, and Christmas is nearly here. For many of us, this stretch of the calendar is full — full shops, full homes, full schedules. It’s the busiest part of the season, and it carries a particular energy with it.

The past few weeks in the shop have been just that. Hectic, lively, and deeply human. Conversations at the counter, last-minute decisions, gifts chosen with care. It’s the kind of busyness we value, even when it leaves us tired at the end of the day.

This time of year also reminds us of the importance of stopping.

We won’t be opening on Boxing Day — and never have. It’s a choice we’ve made deliberately, year after year. After the rush, we believe in taking a few days to step back, be with family, and allow the pace to slow. Not to rush into the next thing, but to pause where we are.

That pause matters. It makes room for rest, for reading, for a quiet hour with a notebook or a book. It makes space for solitude as well as togetherness — both of which feel essential right now.

That’s what all of us at Laywine’s will be doing over the next few days. Spending time with the people closest to us. Enjoying some quiet. Letting the season settle.

We’ll be back on December 27, per usual, and we look forward to opening the doors again, rested and ready.

Until then, we hope you’re able to find a bit of calm amid the busyness — whether around a crowded table, or in a quiet moment of your own.

Warm regards,
~Peter
