Introducing Wingback at Laywine’s: Pens, Pencils, and More

Every so often, I come across a brand that feels like it was designed with Laywine’s customers in mind. Wingback is one of those discoveries.

I first encountered them in London, where I had the chance to visit their studio. What struck me immediately was the balance they’ve achieved between tradition and technology. At first glance, Wingback products look reassuringly simple — mechanical pens, pencils, and fountain pens. But when you take a closer look, you realise that their simplicity is intentional, the result of stripping away everything unnecessary until only the essential remains.

When I first discovered Wingback, I couldn’t wait to share it with Peter. Over a call, I told him about their design philosophy and the integrity of what they were making. Later, when I was next in Canada, I brought along the pieces I’d been using — and Peter was immediately impressed by the design, the engineering, and the overall quality.
